Finally, a useful keyboard! No more app switching—just search and send restaurant info, GIFs, emojis & more, right from your keyboard. Shame for us Android users that it’s only on iOS. Hanging out for it!
This is pretty incredible… If you have the chance, watch the whole way through, it’s pretty amazing! It’s being coined ‘Holoportation’ and it’s a new type of 3D capture technology that allows high-quality 3D models of people to be reconstructed, compressed and transmitted anywhere in the world in real time.
Teachers can now take their students on Virtual Reality field trips – using a tablet that guides the tour! Each smartphone is synched to see the same as their classmates. Amazing stuff! See more at Google Expeditions.
Here’s a handy link if you need any stats or graphs about people’s on-device behaviours around the world. It has a nice interactive graph-building insights section! Very nice!
When household objects come to life onscreen (think candlesticks and teacups in Beauty and the Beast, books and brooms in Harry Potter, the cast of practically every Pixar film), it’s the result of careful animation or painstaking CGI. Done well, it’s magic. But computer-generated imagery doesn’t translate well into live theater, so researchers in Zurich have concocted an enchanting alternative: dancing drones.
As a big fan of projection mapping, I’ve seen many videos of the best-of-the-best projection mapping in all it’s glory. But this demo really raises the bar, training the projection to recognise and map a models face and follow her as she moves it. It’s like a real-time layer of animated light that’s inseparable from the object itself, essentially appearing as real-life CGI. Amazing stuff. Click to see it in action! M. x

This got me SO super excited, however my gaming friends weren’t feeling quite so enthused as they thought it would ruin the future of VR gaming. Never fear, Zuckerberg promises “Oculus already has big plans here that won’t be changing and we hope to accelerate” “After games, we’re going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences. Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face — just by putting on goggles in your home.” Still remember playing the Sims when […]
The internet turned 25 last week. I’m only 2 months older than the internet, so I feel a kind of connection with it. haha, geddit.. :D To celebrate it’s birthday, this amazingly detailed (and scaled) map of the internet has been doing the rounds. Check out the full version. This is also cool, if you haven’t seen it from a while ago – another scaled depiction of the internet, which allows you to explore the ‘universe’ of the internet. http://internet-map.net/
Now this will be a game changer. Oh the possibilities! “The future is awesome. We believe we can get there faster if we build it together. Project Tango is an attempt to create a mobile device unlike like any other, a mobile device that shares our sense of space and movement, that understands and perceives the world the same way we do. We have been collaborating with universities, research labs, and industrial partners who share this passion spanning 9 countries around the world to concentrate the past 10 years of research in robotics and computer vision into a unique mobile phone. The reading game is about to change forever. Boston-based software developer Spritz has been in “stealth mode” for three years, tinkering with their program and leasing it out to different ebooks, apps, and other platforms. Now, Spritz is about to go public with Samsung’s new line of wearable technology. Other apps have offered up similar types of rapid serial visual presentation to enhance reading speed and convenience on desktop/tablet and mobile devices in the past. (I use Chrome app “Spreed” on my mac which allows you to speed read the web by selecting text and right clicking to siphon the […]
